Your Instructor
Hi- I'm Dave Corbin, founder and principal instructor of The Healthcare Security Institute. I am passionate about healthcare security and violence prevention in the healthcare setting. I have honed my specialization in private security over more than two decades. Using creativity and disruptive innovation, I have built highly effective security operations in several challenging environments from the ground up.
Most recently, as the first Director of Campus Security Operations at Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, I expanded the sophistication of security operations and workplace violence prevention efforts while supporting the organization's critical role as a regional COVID-19 test processing center. I also previously served as the Director of Police, Security and Parking at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Brigham Health where I initiated a complete transformation of the 125-person Police & Security department from a contract security team to proprietary team. As an Adjunct Professor at the Northeastern University School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, I have developed and taught security management courses.
I am a member of the ASIS International Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force and have been published in Campus Safety Magazine and the IAHSS Journal of Healthcare Protection Management. Under my leadership, the Police & Security Department at Faulkner Hospital won the prestigious Lindberg Bell Award in 2011 for establishing and maintaining an outstanding security program. I am also the 2016 recipient of the IAHSS Philip A. Gaffney Faculty Chair Award for his writings and work towards the furtherance of professionalism in the healthcare security field.
I hold credentials as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA), certified Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Specialist. I am a graduate of both the Gavin de Becker & Associates Advanced Threat Assessment and Management Academy and the Wharton/ASIS Security Executive Program. I hold a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University in Boston, MA and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI.
